New Restrictions Begin in Brooklyn and Queens

Mayor Bill de Blasio says New York City will begin enforcing new restrictions in parts of Brooklyn and Queens on Thursday.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has created “red zones” in areas that have seen a spike in coronavirus cases.Nonessential businesses have been closed in those neighborhoods and restaurants can only offer takeout. In surrounding “orange zones” indoor dining is off limits and high-risk businesses have been shut down.

“We have to stop this outbreak dead in its tracks for the good of all New York City. And, remember, we need to do it to save lives,” Mayor de Blasio said.

Fines for mass gatherings could be as much as $15,000. People could also be fined upwards of $1,000 for not social distancing or wearing a mask.
