New York City Police Officer Is Arrested For Spying For China

A New York officer is accused of spying for China.

He works with the community affairs unit and was arrested today. The 33-year-old was born in Tibet, but is a naturalized U.S. citizen. Prosecutors say he's been involved in espionage-related activity for more than two years.

Baimadajie Angwang allegedly provided information about the NYPD to officials at the Chinese consulate. He also supposedly gave information on Tibetian ethnic community activities to the consulate.

NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said in a statement, “Baimadajie Angwang violated every oath he took in this country. One to the United States, another to the U.S. Army, and a third to this Police Department.”
