There’s growing criticism of the NYPD over the arrest of a protester on Tuesday night.
Video shows plainclothes officers throwing 18-year-old Nikki Stone into the back of an unmarked police van. Stone was released with a desk appearance ticket.
“I’m surprised, that especially at this time, the NYPD would take such an obnoxious action,” Governor Cuomo said.
Mayor de Blasio also said it wasn’t the time or the place for the arrest. He said the situation reminded him of the federal intervention in Portland.
The NYPD defended the actions of the officers. They said Stone was wanted for vandalizing police cameras near City Hall.
