It’s a hot and humid day on Long Island, but cooling off at the beach could be a challenge.
Hempstead officials are only allowing swimmers into the water up to their knees on Tuesday, after a shark sighting on Monday.
"I'm not worried, no. If I see fins I'll start running the other way," one man told WOR's Alice Stockton-Rossini.
A bull shark, estimated to be between 8 and 10 feet in length, was spotted by a lifeguard. There was a second sighting later in the day, with officials believing it was the same shark.
"It's Long Island. There are sharks everywhere. You shouldn't go to the beach unless you expect to see fish and sharks are fish," one woman said.
It’s the largest shark seen in the area in a few years.
