COVID-19 Spike Causes Target, CVS To Make Drastic Policy Change

CVS and Target announced they will be joining a growing list of retailers across the country that require all customers to wear masks while shopping inside their stores.

CVS made the announcement on Twitter, saying that customers will have to wear masks starting on Monday, July 20.

"We're joining others in taking the next step and requiring all customers to wear face coverings when entering any of our stores throughout the country effective Monday, July 20," CVS tweeted.

Target said that their policy will take effect on August 1, all customers will be required to cover their faces. Stores will provide disposable masks for those who are not wearing one. The company said that 80% of their stores already require shoppers to put on a mask before entering.

"Given the guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the role masks play in preventing the spread of the coronavirus, our store team members also already wear masks when they come to work, which we provide for them," Target said.

Earlier in the week, Walmart, Kroger, and Kohl's announced that customers will have to wear masks starting next week. So far, a total of 13 national retailers have put policies in place to require shoppers to cover their faces.
