NY Heath Commissioner Apologizes For Argument With Top Cop Over Masks

New York City's health commissioner is apologizing to the NYPD after rejecting the department's request for more masks and making derogatory comments.

Doctor Oxiris Barbot says she is sorry for leaving any impression that she doesn't have the utmost respect for the police department. In March, the health commissioner used profanity in an argument with the NYPD’s top cop over masks, including “I don’t give a rat’s a** about your cops.”

Reports are a top police chief had asked for half a million masks to protect officers from coronavirus, and Barbot provided a fraction of the request.

Now police unions and other groups say she should have been fired immediately and must now resign. Mayor Bill de Blasio says she will stay in her role.
