NJ Senator Looks To Protect Watchdogs From Firing

Senator Bob Menendez is looking to provide some protection to government watchdogs.

The New Jersey Democrat plans to introduce legislation that would limit President Trump's ability to fire inspectors general. This comes after Trump fired the State Department's IG last week. That is the fourth such firing in the past few months.

Menendez explained the measure would prevent a president from going through with an "unjustified" or "politically motivated" removal. Several Senate Republicans want a more detailed explanation from Trump.
