New Yorkers Urged To Avoid the Subway If They Can

The MTA insists the subways are safe, but is still asking riders to find another way around the city.

“If you can get around without riding the subway, do it,” MTA Chairman Pat Foye said.“If telecommuting’s an option, do it.”

Mayor Bill de Blasio is encouraging people to skip crowded subway cars and wait for one that has fewer people on it.

“If there’s folks that do not need to be on that train because they could work from home, that’s helpful,” de Blasio said.

The MTA said the subways continue to be cleaned every 72 hours.
