The Queen Wants Meghan Markle & Prince Harry's Departure 'Over And Done'

Members Of The Royal Family Attend Events To Mark The Centenary Of The RAF

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's exit from the Royal Family has been turbulent to say the least. The latest drama to bubble up is Queen Elizabeth decision to ban the Sussexes' from using the word 'royal' in any of their branding. This was a major setback for Harry and Meghan, as they planned to call their forth-coming non-profit organization Sussex Royal. They've also been using the @SussexRoyal social media handle since last year. In a statement released on the Sussex Royal website, Harry and Meghan confirmed they would stop using the word 'royal' in their branding and change their website, social channels and non-profit organization to another name.

While Harry and Meghan admitted they were "saddened" by many aspects of their departure, including the loss of their HRH titles and the ability to continue using Sussex Royal as a brand name, it turns out Queen Elizabeth isn't entirely happy with the outcomes, either. "She generally doesn’t want to talk about it. The Queen has been keen to get this resolved because she sees it is damaging to the monarchy and on a personal level I think this has been rather hurtful for her," a source close to Her Majesty told Vanity Fair. "She has got to the point where she doesn’t want to think about it anymore, she just wants it over and done with."

Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith also spoke toVanity Fair about Queen Elizabeth's decision to forbid Harry and Meghan from calling themselves "royal" for commercial purposes. According to Bedell, the long-reigning monarch "drew the line on exploiting their royal connection for profit. I think in the process she has showed the sort of flexibility and adherence to standards that strengthen the monarchy."

Despite the Queen's fears that the Sussexes' would ultimately exploit their connection to the Royal Family for profit, Meghan reportedly told friends she and Harry wanted to "protect the royal name, not profit off it." One friend told The Daily Mail: “It’s not like they want to be in the business of selling T-shirts and pencils."

It's unclear what Harry and Meghan will do now, however, they promised their supporters will update their digital channels to reflect "the next exciting phase" of their post-royal lives.
