Young Wife Tries To Cash Millions Of Her Elderly Husband's Checks

Love is often blind, especially when you're a 77-year-old man that falls in love with a 20 something-year-old woman.

This was a lesson Richard Rappaport recently found out after his newly married 26-year-old wife was arrested on charges of allegedly trying to cash almost $1 million in checks from his bank account.

Lin Helena Halfon was arrested earlier this month at Tampa International Airport and is facing charges of money laundering, organized fraud and exploitation of an elderly person.

It all started on November 7, when she walked into a bank and tried to cash a one million dollar check, claiming it would allow her to buy a yacht for her and her husband. When the bank employees refused her, she left but came back later in the day with another three checks, each for $333,333. They refused her again and instead called police, who notified Richard about her attempts to cash the checks. He wanted to give his new wife the benefit of the doubt. That was a mistake.

It seems that an associate of Lin's was successful in cashing a few checks at a New Jersey bank and that's when Richard told police he felt like he was being conned by his new wife.

Her bail has been set at $1 million dollars.
