Murphy Signs Law Giving Licenses To Undocumented Immigrants

Governor Phil Murphy has signed legislation that will allow undocumented immigrants in New Jersey to get a driver’s license.

“Expanding access to driver’s licenses is critical for the safety of New Jerseyans and a step toward building a stronger and fairer New Jersey for all,” Governor Murphy said in a statement.

Murphy signed the measure just days after it was passed by the legislature. It will take effect in 2021.

“Allowing residents the opportunity to obtain driver's licenses will decrease the number of uninsured drivers and increase safety on our roads,” Murphy said.
