Undocumented Immigrants in NJ To Get Drivers Licenses

Governor Phil Murphy will sign a measure into law on Thursday that will give undocumented immigrants in New Jersey access to drivers licenses.

“Driving is a basic need – so we must ensure our roads are safe and drivers insured,” Murphy said on Twitter.

The measure was approved by the state legislature earlier this week. The bill will go into effect in 2021.

A number of states already have similar plans in place, including New York where undocumented immigrants began getting drivers licenses this week.
