Much has been said about the rift between Prince William and Prince Harry over the past couple months. Though Prince Harry made it clear that, despite their differences, he'll always be there for his big brother, one of their friends revealed there is still "a lot of unresolved issues" between them. Living under a microscope is part of royal life, as well, which can sometimes make those issues worse than they need to be.

“There is a lot of hurt and a lot of unresolved issues between the boys,” the princes' friend told People. Their long time private secretary Christopher Geidt left in 2017, as well, leaving Prince Harry and Prince William with “no one to help mediate” disagreements between them. The anonymous friend also added that “petty grievances can become huge conflicts between all the different royal offices if they aren’t managed correctly, and that’s exactly what’s happening now.”

Though Harry and William have indeed grown apart in recents years, royal historian Robert Lacey explained says its largely just the growing pains of adulthood. “After the death of their mother, Princess Diana, in 1997, the two brothers were thrown together by the tragedy of their childhood,” Lacey revealed to People. “But it’s inevitable, as they grow up and develop different personalities, that synchronicity won’t apply anymore.”

Like many adult siblings, Prince Harry and Prince William have had to shift their focus from each other to their own growing families in recent years. "As is often the case in any family, when one of your siblings gets married, there’s always a period of readjustment,” another source explained. “People have new priorities and different focuses.”

Not only are they focusing on their young families, William and Harry also have very different roles in the royal family now. “William is the future King," the source continued. "There is going to be some competitiveness between him and Harry. That already puts a rock in the relationship.”
