NYJ 34 NYG 27: Darnold: Jets “Still Got A Chance” To Make Playoffs

Sam Darnold and the New York Jets didn’t just double their win total yesterday, he had some people doubled over in laughter.

That’s because minutes after the teams, ahem, huge 34-27 win over the 2-8 Giants—Darnold was actually talking playoffs.

Yup despite the fact that the 2-7 Jets are much closer to the first overall Draft pick in 2020 than they are playing after January 1st 2020—the Jets QB is talking post season.

"We need every win from now on because we've still got a chance. I mean, if we get on a roll here and we win out, we've got a chance at the playoffs," Darnold told reporters after the win. "Guys in this locker room know this. They know that, and we're really excited to continue to get back to work. That's what it's about."

And while it is laughable, it is also possible as New York would finish 9-7 if they went undefeated the rest of the way, which would put them in the thick of a tight AFC wild-card picture.

And to win their next seven, they would need to win their next four which, over the next four weeks, include games against Washington, Oakland, Cincinnati, and Miami—who are a combined 8-28.

So yeah, logistically the Jets could get hot now against a very bad schedule.

But they are still a very bad team averaging just 14 points a game—who seem to have as poor a hold on the AFC East as they do on reality.
