New York Is Probing Whether There’s Gender Bias In Apple Credit

New York state wants to know if being a woman leads to getting less when applying for credit.

New York's financial regulator is opening up an investigation over the algorithms for Apple's new credit card over claims of gender bias. This comes after tech entrepreneur, David Heinemeier Hansson said Apple's card gave him 20 times the credit limit than his wife received.

The difference in credit limits favored David despite his wife having a better credit score than him and the couple filing jointly. A spokesman for Linda Lacewell, the superintendent of the New York Department of Financial Services says the investigation is to ensure every Apple credit card user is treated equally regardless of sex.

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak replied to Hansson’s post by noting his wife has received similar treatment, despite them sharing all financial assets.
