Rank Voting Coming To New York City

New Yorkers have approved rank voting in the city.

It takes effect in 2021and it will ask voters to rank their top 5 candidates.

If no candidate gets more than 50 percent of the first place votes, the secondary choices will be used to eliminate candidates and decide on a winner.

Meanwhile, Jumaane Williams has been re-elected as public advocate.Melinda Katz has been elected as the next Queens district attorney.

In Jersey City, voters have approved a plan that cracks down on Airbnb. It places new restrictions on short term rentals, like requiring owners to get a permit.

It also prohibits people from renting out a property for more than 60 days a year if they’re not on the property as well.
