A funeral is being held in Monroe, New York on Friday for New York City Police Officer Brian Mulkeen.
Mulkeen was killed early Sunday morning in the Bronx by friendly fire while struggling with a suspect. Mulkeen is heard on body camera footage saying the suspect was reaching for a weapon, before other officers opened fire.
Mulkeen was shot twice and died at the hospital.
“There’s a very thorough review going on right now in what happened in this tragedy,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said.
Mulkeen is the second NYPD officer to be killed by friendly fire this year.Earlier this year, Detective Brian Simonsen was killed.
“We lost two of our officers – that’s very, very painful. It means, by definition, we have to keep understanding what the NYPD can do better, and I think training is always part of the solution,” de Blasio said.
