Governor Cuomo Calls On MTA To Tackle Subway Homeless Problem

Governor Andrew Cuomo says as part of the MTA’s reorganization plan, the agency needs to address the increasing problem of homelessness on the subway.

“It affects service, it affects riders and it affects homeless people,” Cuomo said.

He said it’s not unusual to see homeless people taking shelter in the subway system during the winter months. But he said it’s now become a “year-round phenomenon.”

“I've never seen it this bad. I've never seen it this egregious either on the number and the statistics or as a matter of visibility,” Cuomo said.
