Original Copy Of The Declaration of Independence Is On Display

In honor of Independence Day, the document responsible will be showcased in a New York City library.

One of the original copies of the Declaration of Independence will be on display at the New York Public Library. The document is only one of four surviving handwritten copies by Thomas Jefferson, he gifted to friends. It includes some text that was later removed including Jefferson's condemnation of the slave trade.

The document will be part of a permanent display at the library beginning next year.
