Undocumented Immigrants Can Get Driver's Licenses in New York

Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation that will allow undocumented immigrants in New York to get driver’s licenses.

The measure known as the “Green Light Bill” passed the State Senate on Monday after previously being approved by the Assembly.

Advocates say it will allow the undocumented immigrants to function in society and will make roads safer. Critics say the measure helps turn New York into a sanctuary state.

New York becomes the 13th state to allow undocumented immigrants to receive a driver’s license.Individuals can begin receiving the licenses in December.
