Chanel Lewis Sentenced To Life In Prison

The man convicted of killing Queens jogger Karina Vetrano has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

The punishment for Chanel Lewis was handed down on Tuesday, a day after a judge refused to overturn the conviction because of allegations of jury misconduct. A juror had come forward to claim they felt pressured to find Lewis guilty.

Vetrano was killed in the summer of 2016 while jogging near her home in Howard Beach. Lewis was arrested, with police saying that he confessed to the crime and DNA linked him to the murder.

Lewis’ mother claims her son is innocent. She believes the DNA was planted to frame her son and defense attorneys argue the confession was coerced.
