Laundromats Hosting Story Times for Kids

The Too Small to Fail organization has created way to improve literacy while making laundry time fun for little kids. The “Wash-N-Read” program hosts story time events at various laundromats across the country.

Every weekend, volunteer librarians team up with the laundry owner to create reading corners fully equipped with educational toys and books. While the kids and parents enjoy the reading time, the program’s goal is to promote the importance of early literacy – especially since all children don’t have the same access to education.

So far, the program has been pretty successful. According to NYU researchers, six of the New York laundromats participating in the literacy program have seen a significant increase in educational activities.
