New York Moves To Ban Plastic Bags

Lawmakers in Albany have reportedly agreed to a statewide ban on plastic bags in New York.

There would be several exemptions, including for plastic newspaper bags and dry cleaner bags.

Cities and municipalities would also have the option to opt into a 5-cent fee on paper bags. If they do, those cities and municipalities would receive 40 percent of the revenue from the fee.

Low-income New Yorkers would be exempt.
