Legalized Marijuana Short of Needed Votes in New Jersey

The state legislature in New Jersey is scheduled to vote on Monday on a measure that would legalize recreational marijuana.

However, advocates for the plan still don’t have the needed votes to pass it.

“We are close. We’re not there yet. We’re making progress, but we have a ways to go,” Governor Phil Murphy said.

The measure would legalize, regulate and tax marijuana at a rate of $42 an ounce. It’s unclear if the vote will go forward on Monday if it’s not going to pass.
