Mayor de Blasio Dismisses Low Presidential Poll Numbers

Mayor Bill de Blasio is shrugging off a new poll that shows him last among the potential New York candidates running for president.

According to a Quinnipiac University survey, 28 percent of voters in New York say former Mayor Michael Bloomberg would make the best president.  Governor Andrew Cuomo is next with 17 percent and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is third at 11 percent.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is next with 7 percent, even though she’s not old enough to run for president until 2024.  De Blasio ranks fifth at 5 percent.

“Those poll numbers, they would have been good numbers for me in some of my earlier races and it’s not where you start, it’s where you finish,” de Blasio said.

De Blasio has not ruled out a run for president in 2020.  He’s taken several steps in recent weeks to raise his national profile and is even planning a tour to tout his successes in New York City.
