Mayor Bill Gets Blasted by Assemblywoman Over Homelessness, NYCHA

New York State Assemblywoman and former NYC mayoral candidate Nicole Malliotakis released a statement Tuesday railing against Bill de Blasio for his handling of the city's homeless crisis and allegations of squalid conditions at NYCHA housing.

"Mayor de Blasio tweets a lot about the humanitarian crisis at the border, but you rarely hear him speak about the humanitarian crisis in our city," Milliotakis said via the statement.

"Despite the fact that NYC has an $89 billion budget that grew by $4 billion this year alone, the homeless population is at a staggering 78,676 and the inhumane conditions of city housing are hardly a viable option."

The release of the statement has ratcheted up speculation that the republican Malliotakis might be running for Congress going up against Republican Dan Donovan in the 11th Congressional District on Staten Island.

A spokesperson for Malliotakis told the New York Post, the Assemblywoman will release her plans on running at an appropriate time.
