Governor Cuomo Calls for Investigation into Proud Boys Violence

Governor Andrew Cuomo has ordered the State Police to investigate a brawl caught on video in Manhattan involving the Proud Boys.  He’s also asking for the FBI to investigate.

He said the Metropolitan Republican Club on the Upper East Side invited the group to come speak on Friday night.  There were protests outside the club leading to a fight.

Cuomo characterized the Proud Boys as a hate group with a history of violence.

“The Proud Boys are anti-woman, they're anti-immigrant, they're anti-Muslim. They call themselves western chauvinists and their agenda is to stop anti-white guilt,” Governor Cuomo said.

Three protesters have been arrested, while the NYPD said it’s also looking for additional persons of interest.  Cuomo said he wants the State Police and FBI to assist in that investigation.

“They have a hate crimes unit, the New York State Police, that we have deployed many times and is quite effective. This is not an isolated incident in New York City. They mentioned it's national in scope and it's happened in New York before,” Cuomo said.

The governor questioned why Republicans would invite the Proud Boys, when they’re a known hate group and are known to promote violence.

“It's a political tactic, because what they're trying to do is fire up their base. It's all about the midterm elections, it's all about turnout and they're trying to fire up their base. And this is Trump at his worst. It is wholly consistent with everything he has done since he started running for president,” Cuomo said.
