Price of Gas Hits $5 a Gallon in New York City

Price of Gas Rises in New York City

The price of gasoline is rising again just in time for one of the biggest travel weekends of the year so far: Memorial Day weekend.

A gallon of regular gas will cost you as much as $5 in Manhattan. A Mobil station on 11th Avenue in Hell's Kitchen raised its prices Tuesday to $4.999 a gallon for regular.

Fox 5 reports, however, that even the 11th Avenue station is pricey for the city, where at the same time the Mobil station raised its price to $5, the average regular gallon in the five boroughs cost about $3.18.

New Jersey still has less expensive fuel, even after agreeing to raise its gas tax in 2016 for the first time in 30 years.

In the Garden State, just $3 will get you a gallon of reg-ya-luh — plus full service, of course.

AAA says the national average for regular gas is rising. Today it stands at about $2.93 per gallon, which is 12-cents higher than two weeks ago.
