MS-13 Gang Threatens to Kill Police Officer

Police on Long Island are on high alert after a threat by the MS-13 gang to “take out a cop.”

MS-13 wants to threaten to a cop in this county? MS-13 is gonna get an answer,” Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said.

Police learned of the threat through an informant.  That person told authorities that a gang member was upset with recent arrests in the Hempstead area and told him “it’s time to take the streets back and take out a cop like we do in El Salvador.”

There’s also a second threat, where an MS-13 gang member said they would “execute” an officer.

“It will not be tolerated in this county against any of our first responders whether it's law enforcement, our police medics, or our fire services. We will answer that threat, and we will answer it strongly,” Ryder said.

Police initially sent a memo around to officers warning them of the threat, before going public.  Officers have been told to respond to emergencies in pairs.

“We are doing everything we can to make sure that our police officers and all of our first responders are protected,” Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said.

The threat was made public as Nassau County officials also announced the arrest of an MS-13 leader.  Miguel Angel Corea Diaz, 35, allegedly ordered murders and beatings.  He is also accused of directing the MS-13 drug operations.
