Iconic singer Don McLean is releasing a new album “Botanical Gardens” this week.
It comes 47 years after he released his famous song, “American Pie.” McLean told WOR’s “Len Berman and Michael Riedel it took him about three months to write the legendary hit, most of which was thinking about the Buddy Holly plane crash.
“I’m just happy people like something I did. I had no idea I would do anything that mattered very much. I was just trying to make a living,” McLean said.
The release of “Botanical Gardens” comes about nine years after his last studio album, “Addicted to Black.” He’ll celebrate the release with a show at City Winery in New York City.
“Even if you don’t like me, you’ll like the band,” McLean said.
