Three New York State prisons are under the scrutiny of the nonprofit organization ‘Books Through Bars' after a ruling was released that limits the number of book inmates have access to.
Greene, Green Haven, and Taconic Correctional Facilities will only allow books from pre-approved internet vendors.
The program which went into effect last month has angered many inmate rights groups.
Lisa Davidson, a spokesperson from Books Through Bars said; "Taking books away from people is unconscionable and counterproductive if the idea is to educate and decrease recidivism in prisoners."
