Mayor: 24/7 Subway Service is "Birth Right” in NYC

Mayor Bill de Blasio is speaking out against a proposal that would end overnight subway service in New York City.

“I’m a New Yorker.  Twenty four hour subway service is part of our birth right,” de Blasio said.

The Regional Plan Association has offered several proposals to improve mass transit in New York City, including eliminating subway service late at night.  The transit group believes that would make service more reliable for the rest of the day.

The group said that overnight weekday ridership averages 85,000 passengers.
