In an effort to combat the opioid epidemic NYC will receive 2 new DEA agents.
The new FEDS will join the “special heroin enforcement team” that currently is targeting hard hit drug areas in Nassau and Suffolk counties.
Senator Chuck Schumer has been petitioning Washington for help since the heroin overdose rate has increased by 30% since 2015.
Nearly 1,300 people died from heroin overdoses in NYC last year.
The DEA will also send help to JFK airport to help get a handle on the smugglers who use the transportation center as a distribution starting point.
