Christie Endorses Newark’s Bid to Land Amazon HQ

Governor Chris Christie is throwing his support behind Newark’s effort to lure Amazon to New Jersey.

“Newark was the clear winner of this competition, Newark has earned the state’s support, and I want to thank the Mayor and his team that he put together, they did an extraordinary job putting Newark’s best foot forward,” Governor Christie said.

Amazon is considering a number of cities around the country as it makes plans to build another headquarters.  In an attempt to bring Amazon to Newark, New Jersey is offering $5 billion in tax incentives over a decade.  Newark is also offering a local property tax abatement that could be worth $1 billion and is waving its wage tax.

It’s believed that luring Amazon to Newark could lead to the creation of 50,000 new jobs.

“We have all worked together as a team to say that Newark’s renaissance can no longer be talk. It has to be action and the final crowning achievement of that will be when Newark is named this Spring,” Christie said.
