Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is calling on the Food and Drug Administration to investigate the use of phthalates in fast food packaging.
Schumer said the use of phthalates is already banned in Europe and is banned in food here in the U.S., but not in the packaging. He said that can still expose people to the chemicals.
He said children who eat a lot of fast food have “dangerous” levels of phthalates in their system. That can cause health issues, including developmental and reproductive problems.
