Christie’s Approval Rating Falls to Historic Low

A new poll by Quinnipiac University shows that just 15 percent of voters like the job that Governor Chris Christie is doing, while 81 percent disapprove.

That’s the lowest approval rating for any governor in any state that Quinnipiac has surveyed in more than 20 years.  Even Republicans disapprove of Christie’s job performance by a 58 to 31 percent margin.

The same poll showed that Democrat Phil Murphy leads Republican Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno in the governor’s race.  Maurice Carroll, the assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said Christie’s unfavorable rating is holding down Guadagno.

"Hobbled by eight years in a little noticed job and her ties to a remarkably unpopular governor, Lt. Gov. Guadagno is little-known and little-liked," Carroll said.

The poll also shows that New Jersey voters disapprove of President Donald Trump by a 66 to 28 percent margin.  Senator Cory Booker’s approval rating is 58 percent, while 44 percent like the job that Senator Robert Menendez is doing.
