Pirates best Mets in extras to take middle game of series 5-4

The Mets had a lead for the majority of the game, but rallies in the ninth and tenth innings put the Pirates out on top 5-4. Tony Watson is credited with the win for Pittsburgh while Tyler Pill takes a loss in his MLB debut for New York.

Zach Wheeler was in line for the win towards the end of the game as he pitched well over six innings, allowing just 3 runs and striking out five. Jay Bruce, Lucas Duda and Travis d'Arnaud all homered for the Mets.

The Mets had a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. Addison Reed came in to try and close things out, but he could not shut the door. Reed allowed a run off of three hits blowing his second save of the year.

John Jaso ended up having both the tying and game winning hits tonight. In the bottom of the tenth inning off of Josh Edgin he brought home David Freese with a base hit to end the game.

The Mets will look to take the rubber game of the series tomorrow night at 8 with Matt Harvey on the hill. 'Mets on Deck' kicks off coverage on WOR at 7:05 pm with Pete McCarthy.
