Disruptive Passenger Delays Newark-Bound Flight for 3 Hours, United Says

A United Airlines flight from Shanghai, China, to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey was delayed three hours after a passenger refused to get out of a seat belonging to another flier.

A statement from the airline says the man, who was wearing a red "Make America Great Again" hat, grew increasingly disruptive as crew members tried to get him to move to his rightful seat.

One man who had a relative on the flight tells NBC New York that the passenger asked to be upgraded to first class. When he was rebuffed, he reportedly went to the back of the plane and refused to let anyone else sit in his row.

The airline says the man "eventually left the aircraft" on his own, as fellow passengers shouted "Lock him up!"
