NJ Police Report of Utility Worker Scam

Police in North Jersey are warning residents of a possible scam where a man is reportedly trying to gain access to homes by claiming to be a utility worker.

The suspect allegedly stole money from a woman in Lodi on Monday.

In Rochelle Park, a suspect bearing a similar description tried to get into a woman's home at about 4:30 a.m.

Investigators say the man knocked on a woman's door at about 4:30 p.m. Monday. He claimed to be a utility worker who needed access to her home. She asked for what utility he worked and when he struggled to answer, she shut him out.

Hours earlier, a homeowner in Lodi allowed a man in an orange vest claimed he needed access to the home to check electrical outlets in the kitchen. She let him in and when he left she noticed some belongings and $60 cash was missing.

PSE&G is warning customers to be cautious and report any scams or suspicious people to police.
