A historic peace deal was struck earlier this week that will effectively end the war in Gaza and hopefully bring calm times to a volatile region. The first phase of the deal has been put into effect with troops beginning their movement out of certain areas. Jordana Miller, ABC News correspondent in Jerusalem, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about the deal and what is happening now that it is being enacted.

“Now the ceasefire is in effect and in less than 12 hours the Israeli army has pulled back and redeployed along the first line set out in this agreement,” Miller told host Larry Mendte. “That means tens of thousands of Israeli soldiers have left… Gaza City, they’ve left parts of Khan Yunis, they’ve left parts of Northern Gaza.”

Miller also talked about the native Palestinians moving back following the decrease in fighting: “A wave of tens of thousands of Gazans; they are moving freely back up into Gaza City to go back to their homes.”
