Will Fraud Charges Be Coming Down Against Letitia James?

A Virginia grand jury is looking into charges that New York Attorney General Letitia James falsified information on a mortgage application for a property she purchased there, while the charges James brought against President Donald Trump that led to a $454 million judgement against him for overvaluing his property on loan applications sit in appellate court. According to New York Sun associate editor Ari Hoffman, the turn of events fits the definition of the term “irony.” Speaking on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program, Hoffman filled the audience in on the latest developments involving both sets of charges.

Hoffman started by telling host Larry Mendte what James could be facing in Virginia: “There’s already a criminal DOJ investigation into her alleged mortgage fraud…  But this now, we’re learning, is a separate DOJ investigation, and that’s into two things. One is her effort basically to ‘shut down,’ in her words, the NRA in New York, and two, that fraud case that she brought against President Trump. So, subpoenas are out, grand juries have been convened, so this is really ramping up pretty quickly. We don’t know yet whether this is going to be a criminal kind of investigation or a civil one, but it certainly seems pretty serious.”

Meanwhile, Hoffman says it’s a bit of a surprise there hasn’t been a swifter resolution with the appeal of the verdict against Trump: “Anyone watching it would have said, okay, a reversal is coming down the pike, either a complete reversal of the fraud verdict or at the very least cutting down that enormous penalty against Trump, his business and his two sons- and yet, it’s been radio silence since.”
