We all remember the challenges of getting adjusted to the job market after we graduated from high school or college and wanted to land that first job. A few years later, we hit the market again for a better paying job, and then we probably returned a few years after that to look for the big career break. Some of us even came back a few years after that trying to land a job in an entirely new field. Today’s job seekers are going through the same rigamarole, but there is one difference: while the resume is still your most important tool, AI is probably now part of the experience. Career advice expert Greg Giangrande appeared on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program to discuss the ways in which AI is reshaping the interview and hiring process.
“It is something we will be talking about for the foreseeable future,” Giangrande warned host Larry Mendte. “AI is really taking hold in how we recruit and assess new applicants and in current jobs. Companies are slowing down hiring and they’re replacing normal hiring with AI agents who can do the job, so it’s having a major generational transformative impact on the workforce. If you’re looking for a job or if you’re in a job, you need to pay close attention to what your company is doing.”
Giangrande stressed that you don’t have to stress yourself out mastering every nuance of AI, but you should be aware of how your field will use it. “You definitely want to be proficient at how your company uses AI. Every company, whatever technology they use for internal communications, for email, whatever they use, there’s AI typically already embedded in that, and you want to make sure that, as an employee, you are proficient in how to use the technology to its fullest capability and you want to demonstrate that to your boss.”
