A few weeks ago, US Attorney General Pam Bondi commented that the Jeffrey Epstein file was sitting on her desk, waiting for review as per President Trump’s directive. However, not much has happened since then, leading some to think the Department of Justice overstated the importance of the file. It raised the possibility that, perhaps, there was no Epstein client list in the file in the first place. Yet many of Donald Trump’s most loyal supporters- the MAGA base- are in a uproar, saying they feel betrayed. Conspiracy theories are actually floating in on-line forums that the DOJ is reneging on its promise or hiding something; is MAGA suddenly thinking of a revolt against Trump?
WOR White House correspondent Jon Decker appeared on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program and told host Larry Mendte that President Trump is getting edgy whenever someone brings up the Jeffrey Epstein file. “He’s getting touchy about that… They gave every indication that there was going to be a treasure trove of documents released by the Department of Justice, released by the FBI. In fact, Pam Bondi herself called it a ‘truck load’ of documents; that was her phrase. And now it seems as if she’s going back on this promise to release this information to the public, and for that reason you have very high profile MAGA supporters, MAGA influencers, calling for Pam Bondi to be fired, calling for Donald Trump to ask for her resignation.”
The possibility of a MAGA revolt has obscured other news in Washington, including a sanctions bill against Russia that Decker says has strong support on Capitol Hill: “I think you’re looking at, within the next three weeks, the President [could sign] that legislation. The idea here is to really squeeze Russia where it hurts, and it’s the oil revenue that funds this entire war against Ukraine; that’s what the sanctions target.”
