Despite saying repeatedly since his inauguration that a border wall would never work to solve the migrant problem, President Biden has signed off on the construction of a twenty-mile stretch of wall on the Texas border. Biden says his hands are legally tied on the matter because money that has been appropriated for the construction cannot be spent elsewhere. Yet, when asked by a reporter Thursday if he thinks a wall will work, he simply said “No.” Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino appeared on 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning program to say Biden could have avoided the whole kerfuffle by keeping Trump’s policies in place.
“I think Joe Biden now is, correct me if I’m wrong, but he is now a racist, extremist MAGA who is destroying the country,” Astorino told Berman and Riedel. “This is exactly what he should have continued on January 21st, 2021, when he took over and we wouldn’t be in this mess today, because Trump did have by and large everything straightened out. He made them stay in Mexico, which is what they should have been doing.”
As to why Biden has reversed course on the wall, Astorino says it’s not an ideological shift, but an attempt to hit the brakes on skidding poll numbers. “The reason why he’s starting to build the wall now is because it’s a pack of hyenas, the Democratic Party. They’re killing themselves, and rightfully so, because they’re getting excoriated on this issue. I mean, it’s the number one or number two polling issue now in many states, and rightfully so.”
Astorino also offered his take on the mess that Kevin McCarthy’s removal as Speaker of the House has become. “I actually agree with why they were complaining… the House, just like the Senate for so long has gone with the spending bills of the Democrats, they constantly cave… [but] who the hell is going to want to be the next Speaker?... [However] I think this is a temporary blip.”
