Texas governor Greg Abbott appeared in New York City this week and offered little sympathy for the self-declared sanctuary city. Abbott has been railing for years about the situation at the border and took flak from many politicians for busing migrants to their cities and states. Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino says he understands the criticism Abbott is drawing. Appearing on 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning program, Astorino contends that Abbott deserves a victory lap for getting other leaders to understand how overwhelming the migrant crisis has become.
“Why not stick a finger in their eye,” Astorino said to Berman and newsman Larry Mendte, sitting in for Riedel. “They called him every name in the book. Any Republican who tried to deal with this issue when it was beginning was called a racist and worse… [but] even the mayor of El Paso, who is a Democrat, is screaming and yelling now about the insanity of this, and he kept his mouth shut too, for a while. So why not ship them to sanctuary cities?”
Astorino also offered his take on what could happen as the impeachment hearing slogs through the House. “I think at some point, Hunter Biden’s going to be subpoenaed and have to testify. Wouldn’t that be fun? They could also go the whole distance and ask for Joe Biden to come; that’ll be a legal battle and he’ll never show up. And even the Bidens are saying, you know, they’re backtracking a little bit, and so too are the Democrats. It was nothing, nothing, nothing. Now some of them are saying, ‘well there’s no smoking gun’. Come on.”
