NJ Ice Cream Maker Gets Fined For Workers Losing Fingers

A New Jersey ice cream maker faces hefty fines over workers lost fingers while working on the same machine.

A sanitation worker at Fieldbrook Foods Corp. lost one finger and fractured another while trying to unstick a ice cream wrapper machine in 2018. Then, last year, a technician lost two fingers while trying to fix the same wrapping machine. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration says the company violated safety standards and knew that power should’ve been killed to the machine.

They found six violations total at the facility. Fieldbrook Foods is owned by Wells Enterprises Inc., which makes several desserts under brands including Blue Bunny and Blue Ribbon.
