Officer Brian Mulkeen Killed By Friendly Fire

NYPD Officer Brian Mulkeen was shot by a fellow police officer and killed in a friendly fire incident.

Five officers fired a total of 10 rounds as Mulkeen struggled with suspect Antonio Williams early Sunday morning in the Bronx.

“This is a tragic case of friendly fire, but make no mistake: we lost a life of a courageous public servant solely due to a violent criminal who put the lives of the police and all the people we serve in jeopardy,” Police Commissioner James O’Neill said.

Williams had a lengthy rap sheet and was carrying a gun, although it wasn’t fired.Williams was shot and killed by officers.

The incident began when Mulkeen and other officers tried to question the suspect. Williams ran and Mulkeen gave chase.

There's 36,000 cops in this police department and each one of them incredible human beings, but I'm not sure if everybody would have done that. He displayed, incredible, incredible courage,” O’Neill said.
