Snow Impacts Morning and Afternoon Commute

New York City and the entire tri-state area is bracing for the first significant snowfall of 2019.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until midnight on Tuesday.In New Jersey, Governor Phil Murphy has already declared a state of emergency.

“Overall, we want all residents to be safe.Again, please use common sense and caution out on the roads,” Murphy said.

In New York City, the Sanitation Department has nearly 700 salt spreaders and 1,600 plows ready to go.

One to three inches of snow is expected for most of the area, with more possible for areas north and west of New York City. The snow will change over to rain and ice during the afternoon hours.

“It could affect both rush hours. (Today’s) rush hour could really be messy,” New York City Office of Emergency Management Commissioner Joe Esposito said.

School in New York City is open.However, there are school delays and closings throughout the tri-state area.

"As we prepare for another statewide winter storm, I am urging New Yorkers to be ready for dangerous driving conditions and stay clear of snow plows and other response vehicles," Governor Andrew Cuomo said.
