Is It Okay If You Don't Want To Hang Out With Your Coworkers?

We’ve all come to the end of a long day and gotten an invitation to head out to happy hour with our coworkers. But what happens if you straight up don’t want to go? What happens if you straight up NEVER want to go? Is it cool to just avoid hanging out with your coworkers at all costs? It seems as though no matter what, it’s a situation you have to handle delicately.

On the one hand, you’re bound to form more meaningful relationships with your coworkers if you spend some time getting to know them outside of the office. BUT, you’ve been in the office with them all day, and you just want a break, a massage, a thousand dollars, and to just be alone with your cat for a little while. So what’s the verdict? Go home. It’s totally cool to not have your “me time.”

Sure, you’ll probably become the butt of a ton of antisocial jokes, but they have to understand your needs outside of the office. Some of us just want to get home and get to bed. And really? Who wouldn’t want to avoid all the office drama. Just explain your needs to your coworkers. If they don’t understand, it’s on them!
