NYC Braces for Snowstorm

There will be a light coating of snow on the roads on Friday morning, complicating the commute.  But the real challenge comes this weekend with a Winter Storm Watch in effect from noon on Saturday until 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Two to four inches of snow with freezing rain is expected in the city, while areas north and west of the city could get four to six inches.

“We are on high alert.  This is a serious situation,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said.

Brutally cold temperatures will move in after this weekend’s snow.  Highs on Monday will be in the teens with lows in the single digits.

This will be the first major snowfall since a storm in November that  brought the city to a standstill.  The mayor said the city has learned  its lesson.

“Look, as the Who once said, ‘we won't be fooled again,’” de Blasio said.

The Sanitation Department says it has more than 1,600 plows and 700 salt spreaders ready to go.
